A suspected cable vandal has died after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to cut a high-tension electricity cable along the Ringim–Sintilimawa Road in Jigawa State, authorities have confirmed. The incident occurred on July 31, adding to growing concerns over attacks on critical public infrastructure in the state.
According to the Jigawa State Police Command, officers responded to a distress call reporting a motionless body by the roadside. Upon arrival, they discovered severe burn injuries on the deceased, along with hand gloves, a hacksaw and sacks, items investigators believe were intended for the vandalism operation. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was electrocuted while trying to cut the live electric cable.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the body was taken to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed the suspect dead. He added that efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased, while a full investigation into the incident continues.
