The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, over the alleged desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Zuru Local Government Area of the state.
Musa, a resident of Rafin Mose Village in Zuru, was arrested in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred on August 9, 2026, at about 7pm in the Zango area of the community. The police said he is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and conduct capable of inciting a disturbance.
According to a statement issued by the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, preliminary investigations indicated that Musa allegedly acted alongside two other suspects identified as Rabi’u Tela, the husband of Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango. The two suspects are currently at large, according to the police.
The police alleged that the suspects dug a pit inside Zarau Hassan’s room and buried a copy of the Holy Qur’an alongside several other items, including semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and materials described by the police as fetish objects.
