Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted to the reported killing of an Accord Party member in Osun State, as tension continues to rise ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The victim, identified as Sunday Obube, was reportedly killed in the Omi Eran Atijo community on Friday morning, just a day before voters are expected to head to the polls. According to reports, Obube was chased by suspected attackers before he was caught and killed. A disturbing video circulating online showed what was said to be the victim’s body lying in a drainage channel.
Davido, who has been vocal about developments surrounding the Osun election, reacted to the video and condemned the violence. His intervention comes amid growing fears that political tensions in the state could escalate into further attacks as the election approaches.
The latest incident adds to a troubling series of politically related clashes and killings reported across Osun in the build-up to the poll. The state has witnessed accusations of attacks between supporters of rival political parties, with both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the opposition All Progressives Congress trading allegations over violence.
The atmosphere became particularly tense after a viral video involving Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District. The senator was accused of making inflammatory comments against Accord Party members in Ilesa. Fadahunsi later denied inciting violence, arguing that his remarks had been taken out of context and that he was referring to alleged attacks against APC members.
The controversy prompted Governor Ademola Adeleke to call for the senator’s arrest and investigation, describing the alleged remarks as a serious security concern. Fadahunsi, however, maintained that the video had been deliberately edited and insisted that he was speaking about possible retaliation if attacks on his party’s members continued.
Against this backdrop, the reported killing of another Accord Party member has intensified concerns about the safety of voters and political supporters. Governor Adeleke had already condemned recent killings and destruction of property in Esa-Oke, directing security agencies to strengthen surveillance and investigate the incidents.
