Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Army, have raided a suspected drug trafficking hub in Ewe Luleha, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, recovering 604.5kg of skunk cannabis.

The operation was carried out on August 5, 2026, at what the NDLEA described as a notorious drug hub in the community. According to the agency, operatives recovered 65 bags of dried cannabis, which tested positive for skunk and weighed a total of 604.5kg.

The joint operation also resulted in the arrest of nine suspects, while the NDLEA launched a manhunt for a suspected drug kingpin identified as Sunday, who reportedly fled following the raid.

Edo State NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the agency remained determined to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating across the state. He assured that the fleeing suspect would be apprehended as efforts to track him continued.

The seizure is part of the NDLEA’s continuing operations against illicit drug production and trafficking in Edo State, where cannabis cultivation and distribution remain persistent challenges.

The agency said investigations into the operation are ongoing as authorities work to identify other individuals connected to the drug network and bring those responsible to justice.
