Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged 1,500 newly married couples who benefited from the state’s mass wedding programme to build their homes on patience, justice, fairness, mutual respect and understanding.
The governor made the call while addressing the newlyweds following the state-sponsored mass wedding programme coordinated by the Kano State Hisbah Board. The initiative brought together widows, divorcees and young women from across the state as part of efforts to support vulnerable residents and reduce the financial burden associated with marriage.
Yusuf reminded the couples that marriage is an act of worship and urged them to conduct their marital affairs in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
He advised the newlyweds to respect one another, uphold justice and fairness in their homes and promote peaceful coexistence as they begin their new lives together.
The governor also stressed the importance of patience and tolerance, noting that mutual understanding between spouses is essential to building stable and lasting families.
The programme included medical screening, marriage counselling and orientation sessions designed to prepare the beneficiaries for the responsibilities of married life.
The Kano State Government said it committed more than ₦1.5 billion to the programme. Each bride received ₦100,000 as dowry and another ₦100,000 as business start-up capital, while the couples also received household furniture, food items and other essential materials.
The governor described the initiative as part of his administration’s broader social intervention efforts aimed at strengthening families, supporting vulnerable residents and promoting economic self-reliance.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the programme and appealed to the government to sustain and expand the initiative so that more people can benefit from future mass weddings.
