The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has commenced a restructuring of its party structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As part of the exercise, the party has dissolved all its caucuses across the 16 local government areas of the state, in what it described as an effort to reposition the party and strengthen its grassroots structure.
The restructuring comes amid efforts by the opposition party to resolve internal challenges and present a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 elections. The Kwara PDP has experienced internal disagreements in recent months, including divisions over its governorship ticket and competing factions within the party.
The party had earlier attempted to promote unity among its governorship aspirants, with five aspirants agreeing to a consensus arrangement for selecting the party’s candidate.
The restructuring is therefore expected to provide the party with an opportunity to rebuild its organisation, strengthen coordination among members and improve its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Kwara PDP’s move comes as political parties across the state intensify preparations for the next governorship election, with the PDP seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and strengthen its electoral chances.
