Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued a kidnapped senior military officer, Lt. Col. Ofor Amobi, and a civilian, Mr. Ikechukwu Onwuanra, following an intensive 10-day joint search-and-rescue operation across forests and communities in Enugu State. The operation was carried out under Operation UDO KA after sustained pressure forced the abductors to abandon their captives.
According to a military operational report, the rescue involved personnel from the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion (Reinforced), the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, the 197 Special Forces Battalion, and the Air Component. Acting on intelligence provided by the Divisional Police Officer of Inyi Division at about 2:00 a.m., troops launched a fighting patrol and located the victims abandoned at the edge of a forest in Inyi, within Oji River Local Government Area.
The military disclosed that both victims had sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately evacuated to the 82 Division Medical Hospital for treatment and comprehensive medical evaluation. During preliminary debriefing, the victims reportedly told security personnel that they had been blindfolded shortly after their abduction, transported to an unknown location and later abandoned in a forest near the Enugu–Anambra border as security operations intensified.
Military authorities attributed the successful rescue to sustained intelligence-led operations and continuous pressure mounted by the joint task force, which restricted the kidnappers’ movement and denied them safe hideouts. Officials said the relentless search operation ultimately compelled the abductors to flee, leaving the victims behind.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that follow-up operations are ongoing to identify, track and apprehend those responsible for the abduction. Security agencies also appealed to residents to continue providing credible intelligence, assuring the public of their commitment to protecting lives and dismantling criminal networks operating in the region.
