Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers who were abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims were reportedly travelling through the Magazu area of Tsafe LGA when they were intercepted and abducted by armed terrorists. Following intelligence gathering and coordinated operations, troops moved against the attackers and successfully rescued the passengers.
The rescue operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force. The security forces reportedly mounted pressure on the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the abducted passengers and flee into the surrounding terrain.
The rescued passengers were subsequently taken to a secure location for medical checks and further processing. Authorities are expected to reunite them with their families after necessary security procedures are completed.
The latest operation is another effort by security forces to tackle the persistent wave of terrorism and kidnapping in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West. The region has continued to experience attacks on communities, travellers and farmers by armed groups.
Security authorities have repeatedly urged residents to provide timely and credible information to assist troops in locating terrorist hideouts and preventing further attacks.
The military said operations against terrorists and other criminal groups in the North-West would continue as security forces intensify efforts to restore safety across affected communities.
