The campaign camp of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has threatened to institute a ₦10 billion lawsuit against the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, over alleged defamation and injurious falsehood.
The threat was made by Adeleke’s campaign spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, through a letter dated August 12, 2026, and addressed to Fadahunsi by his lawyer, Hammed Lasisi.
Olajengbesi accused the senator of making malicious statements about his identity and reputation during television interviews, including an interview on Viable TV on July 2 and another on Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11.
According to the letter, Fadahunsi allegedly questioned Olajengbesi’s identity and claimed that he was not from Ijebu-Jesha, but from somewhere in Ogun State. Olajengbesi described the remarks as defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
The governor’s spokesman has demanded an immediate retraction of the alleged defamatory statements and an unequivocal public apology within 24 hours.
The letter warned that failure to comply with the demand would result in the commencement of legal proceedings against the senator, with damages of ₦10 billion being sought.
The development comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, with politicians and their supporters increasingly trading accusations and counter-accusations.
The dispute has also attracted the attention of security authorities. On Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police overseeing the 2026 Osun governorship election, Samuel Etaifo, said Fadahunsi had been invited by the police over a statement attributed to him concerning killing and electoral violence. The police said the invitation was intended to prevent inflammatory rhetoric from escalating tensions ahead of the election.
The latest legal threat adds another layer to the increasingly heated political contest in Osun, with the Adeleke camp insisting that defamatory claims against its members will be challenged through legal means.
