Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN) on her election as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her victory as a clear reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in her by members of the legal profession.
In a congratulatory message issued on Sunday, Atiku praised Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence as a significant milestone for the legal community, noting that her election demonstrated the faith Nigerian lawyers have in her competence, integrity and leadership abilities. He expressed optimism that her tenure would strengthen the association and advance the cause of justice and the rule of law.
The former vice president also described her victory as a positive development for gender inclusion in leadership, noting that she is only the second woman to be elected president of the NBA since the association was founded. He said her achievement would inspire more women to aspire to leadership positions within the legal profession and beyond.
Atiku urged the newly elected NBA president to uphold the association’s long-standing tradition of defending constitutional democracy, protecting human rights and promoting judicial independence. He expressed confidence that her experience as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria would enable her to provide purposeful leadership during her two-year tenure.
Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious after polling 12,317 votes, defeating her closest rivals, Lateef Akangbe (SAN) and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN), in the NBA’s 2026 national election. Following her victory, she pledged to lead with integrity, accountability and inclusiveness while working to build “a bolder Bar that works for everyone.”
