Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has alleged that the recently arrested Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, accused of operating the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention and Projects Council (PFIPC), could not have acted alone. VDM called on security agencies to extend their investigation to the Director-General of the Budget Office, claiming that senior government officials should also be questioned over the alleged fraud.
In a video shared on his social media platforms, VDM questioned how a non-existent federal agency allegedly secured budgetary allocations and operated from government premises without the knowledge or involvement of public officials. He argued that the scale of the alleged fraud suggests that more individuals may have played roles in facilitating the scheme.
Adeniyi was recently arrested by the Nigeria Police over allegations of forgery, impersonation and fraud after allegedly presenting himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC, an agency authorities say does not legally exist. Investigators have accused him of using forged government documents and official-looking offices to deceive individuals and organisations.
While calling for a broader investigation, VDM maintained that arresting Adeniyi alone would not uncover the full extent of the alleged scandal. He urged anti-corruption agencies and the police to identify and prosecute anyone who may have enabled or benefited from the activities of the fake agency, regardless of their position in government.
As of the time of reporting, the Budget Office had not publicly responded to VDM’s allegations, and there is no official evidence linking its Director-General to any wrongdoing. Authorities have also not announced any investigation involving the Budget Office chief. The police say investigations into the PFIPC case remain ongoing, and further actions will depend on the outcome of their inquiries.
