Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under the Joint Task Force (JTF) South East, Operation UDO KA, have recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during an intelligence-led raid in Obiakpu Forest, located in the Ohaji–Egbema area of Imo State. The operation also led to the arrest of a suspected key armourer and logistics courier linked to attacks on oil installations and security personnel.
According to the Nigerian Army, the operation was conducted in the early hours of July 1 following credible intelligence. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly served as the principal armourer and logistics coordinator for a criminal network operating in the Ohaji–Egbema axis.
Items recovered include:
- One AK-47 rifle
- One M4A1 carbine
- One M16A2 rifle
- Six magazines
- Five pump-action guns
- One locally fabricated pistol
- A large quantity of assorted ammunition.
The Army described the recovery as a major blow to the group’s operational capability and logistics network. It added that the suspect remains in custody and is assisting investigators as security forces pursue other members and collaborators of the criminal syndicate.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements threatening national security and critical infrastructure in the South-East, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence
