Afrobeats star Davido used his appearance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to spotlight the plight of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State.

During the event, Davido wore a custom-made black jacket bearing the message “Bring Them Home” and the names of the abducted victims. The gesture was intended to draw international attention to the ongoing abduction crisis and show solidarity with the affected families.

Reports indicate that the jacket featured the names of 39 abducted pupils and seven teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where gunmen attacked schools in May 2026. Some names were reportedly displayed in white for those still in captivity and in red for victims who had died.

Photos and videos of the performance quickly went viral, with many Nigerians praising the singer for using a global platform to raise awareness about the victims and Nigeria’s security challenges.

Before taking the stage, Davido also called for intensified rescue efforts, expressing sympathy for the affected families and urging authorities to hasten efforts to secure the release of those still being held.

The concert was part of FIFA’s worldwide countdown activities ahead of the 2026 World Cup and featured performances by several international artists. Davido’s appearance transformed the entertainment event into a humanitarian appeal that gained attention far beyond Nigeria.
