President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Kwara State as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security and combat banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes in the state. The approval follows growing concerns over attacks in parts of Kwara, particularly in Kaiama Local Government Area, where recent terrorist assaults claimed dozens of lives.
The development was announced by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who described the approval as a major boost to ongoing security operations. According to the governor, the new battalion will enhance the military’s presence in vulnerable communities, improve response times and support efforts to restore lasting peace across the state.
The decision forms part of the Federal Government’s broader security strategy to curb the activities of terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups operating in the North-Central region.
