President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), with immediate effect. The appointment follows the resignation of Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who stepped down from the position to pursue an elective office in his home state.
The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the Presidency, Olanrewaju-Smart brings extensive legislative experience and strong academic credentials to the role, positioning him to strengthen collaboration between the Presidency and the House of Representatives.
Olanrewaju-Smart, 40, is a public policy expert with a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University. He has previously served in several legislative and policy advisory capacities, earning recognition for his work on governance, public administration and legislative affairs.
His primary responsibility will be to serve as the liaison between the Presidency and the House of Representatives, facilitating communication on executive bills, government policies and legislative priorities. The office plays a key role in promoting cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government to ensure the smooth implementation of national programmes.
The appointment has been welcomed by several political stakeholders, including Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who described Olanrewaju-Smart as well qualified for the position. Observers say the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s continued efforts to strengthen legislative engagement and improve coordination with the National Assembly as it pursues its policy agenda.
