Christian women in Niger State have appealed to the state’s First Lady, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, to encourage her husband, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, to ensure greater inclusion of Christians in appointments and governance as preparations for the 2027 political season gather momentum. The women made the appeal during a meeting with the governor’s wife, stressing the need for fairness and religious balance in the administration.
The group expressed concern over what they described as the underrepresentation of Christians in key government positions, urging the First Lady to use her influence to promote inclusiveness. They said equitable participation of both Christians and Muslims in government would strengthen unity, foster mutual trust and promote peaceful coexistence across the state.
Responding to the appeal, Hajiya Fatima Bago assured the women that their concerns would be communicated to the governor. She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to serving all residents of Niger State without discrimination, regardless of religion or ethnicity, and encouraged citizens to continue supporting government efforts toward development and social harmony.
The appeal comes amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with issues of religious representation and inclusiveness featuring prominently in public discourse. Community leaders have continued to emphasise the importance of balanced governance in maintaining peace and strengthening democratic participation in the state.
