At least seven people were killed and 24 others injured after Ukrainian drones struck a major logistics centre in Russia’s Tambov region, in one of Kyiv’s deadliest cross-border drone attacks in recent months. Russian authorities said the overnight assault targeted a warehouse operated by Wildberries, one of the country’s largest e-commerce companies, sparking a massive fire and causing extensive damage to the facility.
Tambov regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov confirmed that the victims were night-shift workers at the logistics centre in the town of Kotovsk. Emergency responders extinguished the blaze and evacuated injured workers to nearby hospitals, while investigators launched a probe into the incident. Russian officials also said air defence systems intercepted dozens of other drones during the overnight attacks.
Ukraine acknowledged carrying out strikes against logistics facilities inside Russia, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying the targeted sites were being used to support Russia’s military by supplying components for drones and navigation equipment. Ukrainian officials argued that disrupting such infrastructure is part of efforts to weaken Russia’s war-fighting capabilities.
The attacks extended beyond Tambov, with drones also striking another logistics warehouse in the Moscow region and igniting a fire at an oil depot in Noginsk, prompting evacuations and further raising concerns over the vulnerability of Russia’s critical infrastructure. Authorities reported additional injuries at those locations as emergency services worked to contain the damage.
The latest escalation comes as both Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify long-range drone operations, targeting military, energy and logistics infrastructure deep inside each other’s territory. Analysts say the strikes reflect the growing importance of drone warfare in the conflict, while international leaders continue to call for restraint amid fears of further escalation.
