The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered several fake official vehicle number plates bearing inscriptions such as “Presidency,” “Senator,” “House of Reps,” and other government designations during a targeted enforcement operation in Abuja. The operation was carried out as part of efforts to curb the illegal use of unauthorised government identification plates and strengthen public security.
According to the FCT Police Command, the operation led to the seizure of numerous counterfeit plates allegedly being used by individuals to impersonate government officials, evade security checks and gain unauthorised access to restricted areas. Police described the practice as a serious security threat capable of facilitating criminal activities and undermining public trust in official identification systems.
The command said investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for producing, distributing and using the fake number plates. It warned that anyone found involved in the illegal production or use of counterfeit government vehicle registrations would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Police also urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to remain vigilant and report suspicious vehicles displaying questionable official number plates or government insignia. The command stressed that cooperation from the public is essential in preventing criminals from exploiting fake identities to commit offences or bypass security procedures.
The recovery forms part of the FCT Police Command’s broader campaign against impersonation, forgery and other crimes that threaten public safety in Abuja. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and protecting the integrity of official government institutions.
