The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property, leading to the recovery of a Toyota Hilux that had been reported stolen. The breakthrough was announced in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
According to the police, the suspects—Mustapha Suleiman of Wuro Hausa and Rabiu Garba, 38, of Jambutu in Yola North Local Government Area—were arrested after Aliyu Usman, who had purchased the vehicle for ₦7.5 million, discovered that it had been reported stolen and promptly notified the authorities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Toyota Hilux had been stolen in Rivers State in June 2026 before being transported to Adamawa by a suspect identified simply as Mati, who is currently on the run. Police said Mati allegedly conspired with the two arrested suspects to sell the stolen vehicle to the unsuspecting buyer. Acting on the complaint, operatives swiftly recovered the vehicle and traced its rightful owner.
The Commissioner of Police commended the complainant for reporting the incident immediately after discovering the vehicle’s status, noting that public cooperation remains essential in combating vehicle theft and other organised crimes. The command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the criminal network behind the operation.
The Adamawa State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state and urged members of the public to remain vigilant, verify the authenticity of vehicles before purchase and continue providing credible information that will aid security agencies in protecting lives and property.
