The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including the father of an 11-year-old pupil, over the death of Mariam Usman, a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area.
According to police spokesperson ASP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from disciplinary action the teacher took against the pupil during school hours. Police alleged that on June 17, 2026, the child’s father, Abdullahi Isiaka, assaulted the teacher at her residence over the punishment administered to his son. Later that same day, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo allegedly assaulted the teacher again while she was on her way to the mosque.
Police further said that on June 18, Ojonojima Mary, the younger sister of Ramatu, allegedly went to the school and assaulted the teacher at her workplace. The victim later died from injuries sustained in the alleged attacks, prompting a culpable homicide investigation.
The three suspects have been taken into custody and are expected to face prosecution. The Commissioner of Police assured the public that the command is committed to ensuring justice and warned against taking the law into one’s own hands
