The Presidency has announced that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested while some others were killed during the security operation that led to the rescue of the abducted Oyo pupils and teachers.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the arrested suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). He said the rescue operation was carried out without any ransom payment or prisoner exchange with the kidnappers.

Onanuga stated that one of the kidnappers’ demands was the release of a suspected kingpin already facing prosecution for alleged crimes, but the government refused to make any concessions. He added that security agencies would provide a full account of the operation.

The abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State were rescued after spending about 56 days in captivity. President Bola Tinubu praised the military, police, and intelligence agencies for the operation
