The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has impounded a truck loaded with 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and arrested its driver during an intelligence-led operation along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway. The operation was carried out by the command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad at Amansea in Awka on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect, Sunday Ukeh, from Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, allegedly refused to stop when flagged down by operatives. The corps said the driver attempted to force his way through the security team, nearly knocking down officers before a hot pursuit led to his interception at the Military Checkpoint in Amansea. Investigators further alleged that the suspect tried to assault one of the officers after he was stopped.
The command disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed discrepancies in the waybill accompanying the petroleum product, raising suspicion that the fuel may have been adulterated. Both the truck and its contents have since been impounded as investigations continue to determine the source of the product, its intended destination and whether other individuals were involved in the suspected illegal operation.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Command of the NSCDC warned that it would not tolerate attacks on its personnel or any form of economic sabotage in the petroleum sector. The command also commended members of its Anti-Vandalism Squad for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations against illegal petroleum racketeering across the state.
The latest seizure comes just days after the NSCDC intercepted another truck conveying suspected adulterated petroleum products in Anambra, underscoring the agency’s renewed crackdown on illegal fuel distribution and related economic crimes. Authorities urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in combating petroleum product adulteration and protecting critical national assets.
