Nigeria’s active mobile subscriptions rose to 188.01 million in April 2026, reflecting continued growth in the country’s telecommunications sector following the verification of subscriber data across network operators. The latest industry figures, released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), also show that Globacom (Glo) retained 23.18 million active subscribers, reinforcing its position as one of Nigeria’s leading telecom providers.

The NCC data revealed that the country’s teledensity increased to 86.73 per cent, while broadband subscriptions climbed to 120.68 million, highlighting rising demand for voice and internet services nationwide. Analysts say the figures indicate sustained recovery in the telecom industry after the completion of the National Identification Number (NIN)-SIM verification exercise, which removed inactive and unverified lines from operators’ databases.

With 23.18 million active subscribers, Glo remains well-positioned to expand its data services, youth-focused offerings and small business connectivity solutions ahead of its 23rd anniversary in August. The operator has continued to target the mass market through affordable products, including its Talkmasta tariff plan and enhanced welcome bonuses for new and existing subscribers.

Industry experts noted that competition among Nigeria’s mobile network operators is increasingly shifting from acquiring new SIM cards to improving network quality, customer retention, broadband penetration and active subscriber engagement. They added that verified active subscriptions now provide a more accurate measure of market performance than total registered SIM cards.

Analysts believe the latest subscriber figures provide a solid foundation for continued growth in Nigeria’s digital economy. They expect telecom operators to intensify investments in broadband infrastructure, service quality and digital innovation as demand for reliable internet connectivity continues to rise across the country.
