Team Nigeria’s boxing campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, suffered another major setback on Sunday after Ajishola Kadijat was eliminated from the women’s 54kg event, dealing a further blow to the country’s medal hopes. Kadijat lost by a narrow 3-2 split decision to Scotland’s Robyn Brown in the Round of 16 after a closely contested bout.
The defeat marks Nigeria’s fourth boxing elimination at the Games, following the earlier exits of Abdulramon Abdulwahab, David Akintola, and Ayomide Hassan. The string of defeats has significantly reduced the country’s chances of securing a medal in one of its traditionally strong sports.
Kadijat impressed with her resilience and aggressive approach throughout the contest, but the home favourite edged the encounter after two of the five judges scored the fight in Brown’s favour. The narrow result ended the Nigerian’s campaign despite a spirited performance inside the ring.
