Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations by expanding cooperation across key sectors, including trade, agriculture, banking, energy, artificial intelligence, industrialisation and infrastructure.

The renewed partnership was highlighted during a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The discussions focused on enhancing economic collaboration and unlocking new investment opportunities between both countries.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, said both nations are building on the momentum created by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed earlier this year. She noted that the agreement is expected to boost market access, attract investments and significantly increase trade between Nigeria and the UAE.

According to the minister, non-oil trade between the two countries is already estimated at about $5 billion, with both governments exploring ways to further expand commercial exchanges. She added that a Nigeria-UAE Joint Commission meeting is also being planned to identify additional areas of cooperation and strengthen diplomatic and economic relations.

The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a long-term strategic partnership that promotes sustainable economic growth, infrastructure development, technology transfer and investment. The latest engagement is expected to pave the way for deeper collaboration that will benefit businesses, investors and citizens in both nations.
