Suspected kidnappers have killed a man in Oghara Kingdom, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, despite collecting ransom from his family, deepening concerns over rising insecurity in the area.
According to reports, the victim was abducted alongside his wife by armed men. The kidnappers later demanded and received a ransom from the family but allegedly killed the husband before releasing the wife. The incident has sparked outrage among residents and community leaders.
Reacting to the development, the Oghara Study Group (OSG) described the kingdom as increasingly unsafe, alleging that kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes have become frequent in the once-peaceful community. The group called on the Federal Government, Delta State Government, and security agencies to take urgent steps to restore security in the area.
Residents also appealed for increased security patrols and intelligence-led operations to curb the activities of criminal gangs, warning that the deteriorating security situation is forcing many people to live in fear.
