The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, shifting the deadline from July 10 to Friday, July 24, 2026, to give more eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC said the extension reflects its commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has a fair and reasonable opportunity to be included in the national register of voters. The Commission noted that the current exercise is expected to be the final major voter registration exercise before the 2027 polls.

As part of the announcement, INEC also unveiled an online self-service voter registration portal, allowing first-time voters to begin and complete their registration process, including biometric capture, using their personal devices without first visiting an INEC office. The Commission said the innovation is aimed at making voter registration faster and more accessible.

INEC urged eligible Nigerians who are yet to register, as well as those seeking to update or transfer their voter records, to take advantage of the extension before the new July 24 deadline
