Suspected terrorists have killed a Christian pastor and injured two other residents in a fresh attack on a community in Plateau State, further highlighting the persistent security challenges facing parts of Nigeria’s North-Central region. The assault reportedly occurred in Bokkos Local Government Area, where armed men invaded the community and opened fire on residents.
Community sources identified the deceased cleric as Pastor Gyang Davou, who was reportedly shot during the attack. Two other victims sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Residents said the attackers fled before security personnel arrived at the scene.
Local leaders condemned the attack, describing it as another tragic incident in a series of violent assaults that have affected communities in Plateau State. They called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable settlements, identify those responsible and prevent further attacks on innocent civilians.
The latest violence comes amid ongoing concerns over insecurity in Plateau, where several communities have experienced recurring attacks resulting in loss of lives, displacement of residents and destruction of property. Religious and community leaders have repeatedly appealed to the Federal Government to strengthen security presence in affected areas and improve intelligence gathering to curb the attacks.
As of the latest reports, security agencies had commenced efforts to track down the perpetrators, while residents continued to call for urgent intervention to restore peace and ensure the safety of lives and property across Plateau State. Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
