At least 30 people have been killed after heavily armed gunmen attacked Naridon village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in the latest wave of violence to hit Nigeria’s northwestern region. The assailants reportedly stormed the community on Sunday night, opening fire on residents and setting several houses ablaze before fleeing the scene.
Residents said the attackers arrived in large numbers and operated for several hours without immediate resistance. Many villagers were reportedly caught by surprise while others fled into nearby bushes to escape the assault. Several people also sustained injuries, while dozens of homes and other property were destroyed during the attack.
Community leaders described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks on the area in recent months and appealed to the federal and Kaduna State governments to strengthen security in vulnerable communities. They said repeated attacks have left residents living in fear and have forced many families to abandon their homes.
As of the time of reporting, the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the attack or providing details on the casualty figure. Security agencies were, however, reported to have been deployed to the affected community, while efforts were said to be ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, where communities have continued to experience deadly raids, kidnappings and other forms of armed violence. Residents are urging authorities to take decisive action to prevent further bloodshed and restore lasting peace in the area.
