The Gombe State Police Command says it has arrested 44 suspected criminals during coordinated raids on identified black spots and criminal hideouts across Gombe metropolis as part of an intensified crackdown on crime.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Umar Ahmed Chuso, the operation targeted thuggery, drug abuse, cult-related activities, and other social vices. The raids were carried out using intelligence-led policing in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police to strengthen community security.
The command also launched the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) to educate residents particularly young people on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, and criminal activities. Police said the initiative combines law enforcement with public sensitisation to reduce crime in the state.
Authorities said investigations into the suspects are ongoing and assured residents that similar operations would continue to rid the state of criminal elements. The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime
