The Federal Government has welcomed the suspension of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) strike in Oyo State, describing the development as a major victory for dialogue and a significant step toward restoring uninterrupted learning in public schools.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa said the resolution followed sustained engagement between the Federal Ministry of Education, the Oyo State Government, and the leadership of the NUT at the national, zonal, and state levels. He commended Governor Seyi Makinde and the union for resolving the dispute through constructive dialogue.

The teachers had embarked on the industrial action after the abduction of teachers and pupils from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, citing concerns over the safety of educators and learners. Following the suspension, the union directed public primary and secondary school teachers across the state to resume duties on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to quality education despite prevailing security challenges. He also praised teachers nationwide for their resilience and pledged continued collaboration with state governments, teachers’ unions, and security agencies to strengthen school safety
