The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced that it will begin enforcing statutory requirements on the contents of company business letters from August 1, 2026, warning that companies that fail to comply will face sanctions under the law.
According to the commission, the enforcement is in line with the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, particularly Sections 304(1), 304(2) and 729(1)(c), which require companies to display key statutory information on their official business documents.
The required information includes:
- The company’s registered name.
- Its registration number.
- The present forenames or initials and surnames of every director.
- Any former forenames and surnames of directors.
- The nationality of every non-Nigerian director.
The rule applies to all official business documents, including business letters, invoices, quotations, receipts, and official correspondence. Companies that fail to include the required details after August 1 risk regulatory sanctions by the CAC.
The commission urged all registered companies to review and update their letterheads and other official documents before the enforcement date, stressing that the move is aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and corporate governance in Nigeria’s business environment
