The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a 68-year-old man, Tibi Friday, and his 36-year-old son, Oyabrade Tibi, for allegedly being in unlawful possession of four single-barrel guns during a stop-and-search operation in Yenagoa.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, operatives of the Anti-Vice Unit intercepted the father and son at about 10:30 a.m. on July 6 along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway. The suspects were reportedly travelling in a commercial tricycle to Abua, Rivers State, when officers searched their belongings.
During the search, officers allegedly discovered four single-barrel guns concealed inside a sack and covered with sticks, which investigators believe was an attempt to evade detection.
The police said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yenagoa, for further investigation to determine the source of the firearms and identify any other persons connected to the alleged offence.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling the proliferation of illegal firearms and violent crime across the state and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid security operations
