Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has made her first on-screen appearance in Hollywood following the release of the first teaser for Paramount Pictures’ highly anticipated fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone. The teaser offers fans their first glimpse of the Grammy-nominated singer in character, marking a major milestone in her transition from music to acting.
The teaser, released by acclaimed director Gina Prince-Bythewood, showcases behind-the-scenes footage from the production while building anticipation for the film’s official trailer. Although Ayra Starr appears only briefly, her appearance has generated excitement among fans eager to see her acting debut in the adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel inspired by West African mythology.
Children of Blood and Bone boasts an impressive international cast featuring Thuso Mbedu, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Cynthia Erivo, Damson Idris, Lashana Lynch, Richard Mofe-Damijo, alongside Ayra Starr. The teaser is also soundtracked by Tems’ hit song Me & U, adding another strong Nigerian presence to the production.
Speaking previously about the experience, Ayra Starr described landing the role as a dream come true. She revealed that acting had always been one of her ambitions and admitted that working on a film set gave her a newfound appreciation for actors and the discipline required in filmmaking.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film tells the story of Zélie Adebola, a young woman determined to restore magic to the fictional kingdom of Orïsha after it was wiped out by a ruthless monarchy. Following the release of the teaser, anticipation has continued to build ahead of the movie’s worldwide cinema and IMAX release on January 15, 2027, with many fans hailing it as one of the most eagerly awaited fantasy films of the year.
