Demola Olarenwaju, Senior Political Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has called for the dismissal of President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the controversy surrounding the alleged appointment-for-cash scandal involving Adeniyi Matthew.
Olarenwaju reacted after the Presidency denied any knowledge of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and dismissed Matthew’s claims that Gbajabiamila was involved in securing his appointment in exchange for money. The Presidency described both the agency and the allegations as false.
In a post on X, Olarenwaju argued that the Presidency’s defence raised more questions than answers. He said that if Matthew was able to fraudulently insert himself into the national budget without the knowledge of the Chief of Staff, then Gbajabiamila should be removed for negligence and lack of due diligence. Alternatively, he said that if investigations prove the Chief of Staff collaborated in the alleged scheme, he should face prosecution.
According to Olarenwaju:
“If that fellow scammed himself into Nigeria’s budget, then Gbajabiamila must be sacked for negligence and lack of due diligence. If the fellow connived with him… Gbaja should be prosecuted.”
The Presidency has continued to reject the allegations, maintaining that the purported agency does not exist within the Federal Government and insisting that the claims against Gbajabiamila are baseless. As of now, no official investigation or court finding has established wrongdoing by the Chief of Staff
