Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu over alleged budget irregularities involving the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education and the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement released on Monday, Atiku alleged that the 2026 Appropriation Act showed a pattern of budget manipulation, claiming projects and funds were inserted into agencies without the legal mandate to execute them. He argued that the PFIPC controversy raises serious questions about the integrity of the federal budget process.

Atiku also questioned how the Presidency could insist that the PFIPC was not a legitimate government agency when documents indicated it had a budget allocation and other official approvals. He said the President owes Nigerians a full explanation, arguing that if the developments occurred with Tinubu’s knowledge, they raise accountability concerns, and if they occurred without his knowledge, they point to a failure of oversight.

The former vice president further linked the PFIPC issue to reports of budgetary allocations involving the Almajiri Commission, describing both matters as signs of weak governance and calling for greater transparency in public finance. He urged the Federal Government to institute an independent investigation into the controversies.

The Presidency has previously defended its handling of the PFIPC matter and rejected allegations of wrongdoing, while insisting that the appropriate authorities are addressing the issues raised
