Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has given President Bola Tinubu a seven-day ultimatum to sign the Federal Audit Service Bill into law or resign, citing allegations of ₦8.8 trillion in unaccounted public spending and the ongoing Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) controversy.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku argued that the Federal Audit Service Bill is a constitutional requirement designed to strengthen public financial accountability. He accused the President of delaying assent to legislation that would empower auditors to detect and sanction financial irregularities in government.

Atiku linked his demand to two major issues:

  • The IMF’s report alleging about ₦8.8 trillion in off-budget federal expenditure.
  • The PFIPC scandal, involving a purported government agency that allegedly received a ₦1.3 billion budget allocation despite questions over its legal status.

He maintained that signing the Audit Service Bill would strengthen transparency, enhance oversight of public spending, and help prevent similar controversies. Atiku also called for independent investigations into both the alleged off-budget spending and the PFIPC affair.

The Presidency has not publicly responded to Atiku’s latest ultimatum. However, it has previously rejected allegations of wrongdoing over the PFIPC matter and said appropriate investigations are underway
