The Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops are actively tracking the abductors of four people, including two students, who were kidnapped during an attack on a National Examinations Council (NECO) examination centre in Kogi State. The assurance was given by the Commanding Officer of the 21 Battalion, Lt. Col. Godiya Monde, who said security forces are intensifying efforts to rescue the victims safely.

According to Monde, the abductees comprise two students, the school principal, and a NECO supervisor who was overseeing the examination at the time of the attack. He disclosed that the kidnappers have established contact, adding that troops are waiting for further communication to help trace their location and facilitate a successful rescue operation.

The commander also explained that the military’s initial response to the incident was delayed because the school is situated in a remote area that was difficult to locate. He said soldiers eventually reached the scene with the assistance of a local resident who guided them through the terrain, enabling security personnel to launch search operations.

Following the abduction, the Nigerian Army, police, local vigilantes and hunters have continued coordinated search operations across nearby forests and surrounding communities in a bid to locate the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release. Authorities have assured residents that every available resource is being deployed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of schools, particularly during public examinations. Security agencies have appealed to residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist ongoing rescue efforts, while reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and restoring security in the affected communities.
