The Nigerian Army has arrested Private Mohammed Yusuf, a soldier who was recently declared wanted for allegedly supplying military uniforms and other military accoutrements to terrorists and criminal groups in the North-East. He was apprehended by troops of the 7 Provost Group, Operation HADIN KAI, at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri, Borno State, while allegedly attempting to flee into the Republic of Cameroon.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Muhammed Goni, the suspect had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on July 23, 2026, following allegations that he was involved in the illegal sale and supply of military kits to terrorists and other criminal elements. His arrest followed credible human intelligence that tracked his movements.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf allegedly absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate. Security operatives eventually intercepted him at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25 as he allegedly tried to escape across the border into Cameroon.
The Army said the suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his alleged activities and identify any collaborators involved in the suspected criminal network. Military authorities stressed that the arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and the Army’s commitment to accountability within its ranks.
Captain Goni reiterated that there is no safe haven for individuals who support terrorism or engage in activities that threaten national security, regardless of their status. He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, describing public cooperation as vital to the ongoing counter-insurgency operations and the restoration of lasting peace in the North-East.
