An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to simplify the process of collecting Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the state’s governorship election, saying many eligible voters are facing unnecessary hardship in obtaining their cards.
Speaking in Osogbo, Oyintiloye said the current PVC collection process is cumbersome and risks discouraging voter participation. He urged INEC to adopt a more efficient and citizen-friendly system that would enable more residents to collect their PVCs with ease and exercise their constitutional right to vote during the election.
The former lawmaker appealed to eligible voters not to be discouraged by the challenges associated with the collection exercise. He encouraged those who are yet to obtain their PVCs to complete the process and participate peacefully in the governorship poll by voting for candidates of their choice.
Oyintiloye also expressed concern over reports of political intimidation and urged security agencies to remain vigilant before, during and after the election. He stressed that no individual or group should be allowed to undermine the democratic process through violence, threats or actions capable of creating fear among voters, calling for anyone found disrupting the electoral process to be brought to justice.
Expressing confidence in the APC’s chances, Oyintiloye said the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), enjoys widespread support across the state and is well-positioned to win the election. He maintained that improving PVC collection would not only increase voter turnout but also strengthen the credibility and inclusiveness of the electoral process.
