An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Dr. Taofiq Raimi, has defended the Presidency over the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing the incident as comparable to the September 11 attacks in the United States, arguing that security and administrative breaches can occur in any country.

Raimi said the alleged fake agency should not be used to discredit the administration of President Bola Tinubu or the office of the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. He maintained that the Presidency acted promptly after becoming aware of the controversy and has continued to cooperate with relevant authorities.

According to him, even the world’s most advanced institutions have experienced major security failures, citing the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States as an example. He argued that isolated incidents should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of systemic failure or official complicity.

The PFIPC controversy began after Adeniyi Matthew claimed he had been appointed Director-General of the council and alleged links to the Presidency. However, the Presidency has insisted that no such council exists and has distanced itself from the appointment, while investigations into the matter continue
