Former Borno State Governor and APC chieftain Ali Modu Sheriff has claimed that Peter Obi would leave any political party that refuses to field him as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking during an interview, Sheriff argued that Obi’s political decisions have consistently been driven by his presidential ambition. He alleged that if Obi realizes he cannot secure a party’s presidential ticket, he would move to another platform that offers him the opportunity to contest.
Sheriff also dismissed Obi’s chances of winning the presidency, insisting that the former Anambra governor would struggle to gain support in northern Nigeria. According to him, regional political dynamics would make it difficult for Obi to secure enough votes to become president.
The remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and ongoing speculation about opposition parties’ strategies for selecting presidential candidates. Obi has not publicly responded to Sheriff’s latest comments
