The Labour Party’s candidate for the Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, China Anyaso, has declared that electoral rigging will not be tolerated in Abia State, assuring residents that adequate security measures will be in place to protect voters and ensure that every legitimate vote counts. He made the remarks during a stakeholders’ meeting held in the state ahead of the 2027 polls.
Speaking on behalf of the Labour Party administration led by Governor Alex Otti, Anyaso said the state government is committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections. He warned individuals planning to manipulate election results to abandon such intentions, insisting that the era of “writing election results” in Abia was over.
According to the LP candidate, while political parties and candidates are free to campaign vigorously for votes, the responsibility of the government is to provide a level playing field where citizens can vote without fear or intimidation. He stressed that security agencies would be mobilised to safeguard polling units and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Anyaso also urged eligible voters to participate actively in the electoral process, noting that democracy can only thrive when citizens freely choose their leaders. He expressed confidence that Abia would set an example for other states by delivering a transparent and peaceful election in 2027.
The remarks come as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties intensifying consultations and campaigns across the country. Election observers are expected to closely monitor preparations in Abia and other states as stakeholders continue to call for credible polls and greater public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
