Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has died after a brief illness. He reportedly passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, leaving the Yoruba film industry in mourning.
The actor’s death was confirmed by fellow Nollywood actor Kunle Afod, who paid tribute on social media, describing Elegbeje Ado as one of the legends of the Yoruba movie industry whose contributions to indigenous cinema would never be forgotten.
Beyond acting, Adeshina was also a Christian pastor. He stepped away from mainstream filmmaking in 2016 to focus on ministry before making a brief return in 2025 to produce Christian-themed movies.
Widely respected for portraying traditional rulers, elders, and cultural figures in Yoruba films, Elegbeje Ado built a career spanning several decades and earned admiration for his authentic performances and dedication to preserving Yoruba culture through film.
As of the time of reporting, the actor’s family had not released details of his funeral arrangements
