Several communities in Isashi, Iba, Ojo, and Okokomaiko in Lagos State have been submerged after three consecutive days of heavy rainfall, forcing many residents to flee their homes and disrupting movement across the affected areas.
Among the worst-hit locations are James Kunle Street in Light Estate and Oluwaseyi Street in Isashi, where floodwaters inundated homes and roads. Residents said a fallen electricity pole, washed down by the flood, has blocked one of the few remaining access roads, making movement difficult for both motorists and pedestrians.
One resident, Joel Ubah, appealed to the Lagos State Government for urgent intervention, saying his four-bedroom house has been completely flooded. He blamed the situation on blocked drainage channels and the alleged sand-filling of a major waterway at Obadore, warning that continued flooding could lead to the collapse of buildings.
Photos from the affected communities showed overflowing canals, submerged streets, and waterlogged residential buildings, with some families relocating temporarily to stay with neighbours and relatives. The flooding is part of a wider deluge that has affected several parts of Lagos following prolonged rainfall.
Residents are calling on the state government to clear blocked drainage channels, restore damaged infrastructure, and implement lasting flood-control measures to prevent recurring disasters during the rainy season
