The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, the alleged originator of a viral AI-generated audio clip falsely attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The arrest was announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the suspect was tracked and arrested by an Inspector-General of Police (IGP) special crack team in Benin.

Authorities say Dennis created an artificial intelligence–generated voice recording made to sound like President Tinubu and circulated it online as a “leaked presidential audio.”

The fake audio reportedly contained controversial claims touching on:

  • insecurity in parts of Nigeria
  • political opposition figures
  • governance issues and public policy discussions

The Presidency described the act as a deliberate misinformation campaign, saying the suspect passed the fake voice to unsuspecting social media users who further amplified it.

Authorities say investigations are still ongoing, and further details on possible charges will be released later.

The incident is part of growing concern over the rise of AI-generated deepfake audio and videos, which experts warn can be used to spread misinformation and influence public opinion.
