Police in the United Kingdom have launched a manhunt for a Nigerian man identified as 24-year-old Samuel Okafor, who escaped from a prison transport van while being taken to court in south-east London.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the incident happened when the vehicle stopped briefly during transit, allowing the suspect to flee. Officers said he was being transported for ongoing criminal proceedings at the time of the escape.
Authorities immediately activated a search operation across parts of London, deploying patrol units and reviewing CCTV footage in nearby areas to track his movements.
The Metropolitan Police warned the public not to approach the suspect if seen, describing him as potentially dangerous and urging anyone with information to contact emergency services.
Investigations are ongoing to determine how the escape occurred and whether any procedural lapses contributed to the incident.
