Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has revealed that security operatives foiled an alleged plot to bomb the Ondo State Government House in Akure following intelligence reports that exposed the plan.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Aiyedatiwa said the plot was uncovered about three to four months ago when security agencies received information about a group of youths allegedly preparing an attack on the seat of government.

According to the governor, the suspects initially stayed in a hotel before relocating to a rented apartment, where they allegedly assembled materials and equipment linked to the planned attack. Intelligence gathered by security agencies led to a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force and the regional security outfit, Amotekun.

Aiyedatiwa said security operatives raided the location, arrested the suspects, and recovered items believed to be connected to the bombing plot. The suspects are reportedly still in custody while investigations continue.

The governor stated that about five youths were involved in the alleged scheme and that authorities are still trying to determine their exact motive, the police Aiyedatiwa said.

He noted that many successful security operations often go unnoticed because attacks are prevented before they occur, adding that intelligence-led operations have helped avert several threats in the state.

The governor also said South-West governors have continued to strengthen security cooperation through intelligence sharing and collaboration with regional security outfits such as Amotekun.

His comments came shortly after he welcomed the conviction of four individuals linked to the June 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, describing the judgment as a victory for justice and the rule of law.
