At least five people have been confirmed dead, while eight others sustained critical injuries in a road accident that occurred in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) desk officer in Agaie, Hussaini Guregi, the crash involved a trailer carrying about 40 passengers and a tanker. The trailer was travelling from Gusau, Zamfara State, to Sagamu, Ogun State when the collision occurred on Sunday.
Guregi said five passengers died instantly, while the eight injured victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Agaie, for medical treatment.
Emergency responders and local authorities evacuated the victims from the scene, while investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the accident.
The incident is the latest in a series of fatal road crashes in Nigeria, underscoring ongoing concerns over road safety and the need for stricter compliance with traffic regulations
