The Federal Government has vowed to intensify military and intelligence operations aimed at crushing kidnapping networks and securing the safe rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo and Borno States.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said security agencies have been directed to deploy all necessary resources to ensure the victims are brought home safely and that those responsible are tracked down and prosecuted.

He described the recent spate of school abductions as “unacceptable” and part of a broader attempt by criminal groups to destabilise communities and undermine public confidence in the country’s security system.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu has given security chiefs clear directives to:

  • intensify intelligence-led operations
  • dismantle kidnapping and terrorist networks
  • strengthen protection of schools and vulnerable communities

Security agencies are also reportedly working with local vigilantes, forest guards, and intelligence units to track kidnappers believed to be operating in forest corridors across the South-West and North-East.

The statement comes amid nationwide concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State and renewed attacks on schools in Borno, which have triggered protests, strikes, and calls for stronger security presence in educational institutions.

The government reassured Nigerians that ongoing rescue operations are “active and coordinated,” while urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder security efforts.
